Last Walk IIIOnce night fell, the air temperature dropped rapidly, leaving the old man shivering for warmth; his teeth chattering automatically.
I'm going to die out here. Alone, he thought.

Overhead a pale moon rode through a clear sky; soft light fell between the naked branches, creating more shadows rather than actually revealing anything. At least that was Arnold's opinion on the matter. The branches clicked and clacked, sounds resembling an ethereal conductor tapping his baton, calling his sylvan orchestra to play.

He was lying on a bed of moss behind an old tree trunk. Luckily there was no wind to block, but it was cold nonetheless.

Too cold.

Last Walk II"I must be going mad."

Arnold stopped in his tracks, listening to the raspy sound of dry cornstalks rustling in the wind.
He turned around and walked back to the scarecrow.
Waited.
Nothing.
Just as he expected.

Just as he went to step away again, the voice spoke. "I've seen Hell. 90 billion souls in a lake of fire; ear-shattering screams of agony that would drive you instantly insane."
Arnold's face was a picture of slack-jawed surprise...almost to the point of idiocy as spittle ran unheeded from the corner of his mouth.

The gaunt-framed bogey man continued. "Your wife is there, right now Arnold. Right there.." The scarecrow turned

I am not a photographer, and can lay no claim to being able to critique, nor comment on your photographic skills; however, I do know what I like, and I like this. What makes it so great photographically, is unknown to me. What is known is that I like how the solitary image of the tree and the shadows beneath it, along with the brown grasses contrast so nicely against the blue, cloud filled sky. Ahh, that my painting skills were of such ability that I could paint this! The clarity of your image is superb, and the composition is great. I like this very much.

Thank you very much, Ann. Hey, don't feel bad about the technical critiquing...I don't even know all the "right" terms and such yet. So don't worry. :)

I do love that you took the time to study it and post your thoughts on it.
As far as the composition, I was out for a drive a while back, and as I drove by this field...it just clicked in my head. I've never been able to explain it and I'm not trying to boast at all...but ever since I can remember, I can just tell when a scene is right to shoot.

Lord-willing, someday it may turn into something bigger, but even if it doesn't, its this back and forth that makes it worthwhile. That, and the unexplainable satisfaction, peace and simultaneous excitement I derive from shooting pictures.

Yeah, I just love how this tree seemed to stand out in the midst of that field...there is almost a lightly surreal aspect to it. (Sidenote: When I say surreal, I have my own idea...that some scenes have a certain quality to them. But it isn't in the full-blown, Salvador Dali, hard surreal aspect. Rather, its the clouds and the shadows and colors..more like Edward Hopper maybe.)

I would love to see you paint one of my shots! That would be so awesome. :D
