I did not save her from the sea.The pond was small, the cattails fair;
The algae drew a shining veil
Across the waters waiting there
For her to come while wandering
And stare beyond the dreary pale
Expanse of fog and starry glare
Upon the pond within the dale
Where she had ventured, pondering

The many dreams she'd had of late
Of sandy-shores and broken shells
Upon a beach along a strait
And of the ocean shimmering—
She heard the wave's cathedral bells
Come crashing with a dreadful weight
'Till she, afraid of violent swells,
Could no more see the glimmering

Of pearly foam, nor shining seas
But only turbid tempest-doom;
No more the fragrant, salt-laced
strangeryou came clinging to the grace of a summer storm's
underbreath, came cold hands and tired eyes
and a bruised lip i'd longed to kiss
when you stumbled on night listing
too far to the left
 cross my thistledown garden by old dusks
 that wilt between, i'll keep my door open:
 your lady in sepia doesn't live here, only
 the ghosts and i -- and Grandmother,
 in the far-between wanders when she can
 remember --

but i've a place where you can
lay your wayworn bones to dry, and
if morning should come calling, i'll not
tell her where you sleep. and stayed awhile.
In barren hearts of fools I call my friendsIn barren hearts of fools I call my friends,
An unrich flower grows; a farmer's rose,
That blooms whichever way air traffic sends
This steerless seed, adrift without repose.

Their lands be arid, acres reft of life;
A dried up desert, nemesis to growth;
Still grows that poppy, overcome all strife
With enemies all other life does loathe.

And though the daffodils might mock its leaves,
The noble rose resent its nimble throne,
No haughty flower has its red outshone;

Cause while these bourgeois plants, uptight, tide well
Inside their wealthy master's garden cell,
All these will wither, wealthy care deprived.

Interrupted

By a single length (3 feet)

stuck to my shower wall.

You are over 700 miles away.

What the hell, woman?
Haiku IIIwhite cherry blossoms
melt on frosted window panes -
harbinger of Spring
hyperdontiasometimes it feels as if
I have too many milk teeth,
too many parts of me that belong
to a time when I climbed trees to touch the sky
and I swam in sunflowers
and fireflies -
to a time I have long since
painted in sepia tones,
long since pushed
to the back of my mind
with hands so tired
of being filled with splinters
- too many seeds
and not enough light.

there are too many parts of me
that I have placed underneath pillows,
that I have kept behind closed lashes,
that I have slept upon, waiting
for the morning to arrive and them
to be g o n e ,
replaced with coins that I could place
underneath the tongues of the dreams
that I could not fer
seasons' changesi. last fall

i had my heart torn apart
        (by you)
by a boy- one who replaced
his ripped bluish-gray jeans
        (that i loved on you)
for brown corduroy pants to keep him safe
from the coming harshness of winter;
even through its irrational number
of hail and rainstorms,
i don't believe i felt
or recalled a thing about that fall
for it was during that fall that not even the howling of the winds
could help shatter my dangling,
crystallizing heart
and our growing, cathartic distance.
i, too, had to adjust as i was forced
to learn
how to make due
without the heat of your arms
over and around my nape
and waist.
i'm
Dead Bird HeartI never noticed the way ash looks like feathers.

I become aware of the shores where my body
folds to meet itself, doubles over so that my hair
seems to grow like roots into the ground

keeping me from ever lifting my head again.

Of all the things she told me, she missed this one:
what to do with the ashes.

Hers is a dead bird heart—
grey-haired and grey-feathered.
She is paler than she has any right to be,
ashen—

But her eyes are open, and she can see the sky
where a roof once was.
Sky PebblesThe sky,
a sloped portrait,
grazes the horizon;
shooting stars skip past Scorpio's tail,
laughing.
16The moon renders a highway
As the trees paint the spectre,
You sit with a stillness — unnatural;
You listen for the twigs to snap.

My pulse is a bird straining
Against a cage of flesh.
pearlescentyou are as pearlescent as a paua shell
soft, pretty, glimmer-changing.

like a fish, a silver-quick fish
darting, shifting, every moment you are new.

rippling, iridescent colours
sliding joyously and gleamingly over you and

around you, kissing you with fragments of light
here, there, gone.

quick as a flash you are.
in dark eyeethereally floating there
envying the lust of life
luridly at a rolling boil

expansive outcome of supernova
distant alluring signal
behind fine line lashes

comet trails pioneer the iris
tease of civilizations incalculable
ancient creation secrets born anew

granted before wish uttered
just a shy blink leaves me
ethereally floating there
glass in the tidegradac, croatia; summer.

it is a town climbed up from the sea:
a salt hymn, an exhalation, a brightly calcified
spray. the houses here are overgrown
as wildflowers, paths like tiny winding veins
sprung alive between them. from my balcony i watch
the sun crest slowly into afternoon,
and mothers lead their children
down stone slopes, arterial pull
to the water. by the shore,
vendors sell bottles of olive oil, salt,
sage, gathering up anything with the taste
of what mystery inhabits the air—brimming over
the glass lips, a curving kind of joy,
the whole earth, a bowl of it.

at night, my uncle drinks beer
and i drink wine. he watches
the
61.8% Waterthe veins along my racing heart are rivers.

their waterfalls cascade into my stomach,
and hit the bottom with an empty thump.

waves run along the inner linings of my lungs,
crashing into every breath.
no wonder I can never seem to take in enough air.

the bottom of my throat is consumed by a whirlpool.
it steals all of my words,
and tucks them deep into the crevices of my bones.

the pressure of all these words under my skin builds up,
so that every so often a flood hits my brain,
and all my thoughts are scrambled up and confused.

some days I wish for a tsunami
to wash away all of these helpless scars.

Temperatures rise as the band throttles up
You move so smooth in that smoky jazz
As the horn section opens their pipes

Can you see the way you look in my eyes?
How you sparkle like diamonds
You grin and dance harder
Beckoning

This is the juice
We're living the real thing tonight
In a world that loves to lie
We know the truth

Walking down the street
Hand in hand
I hear you laugh
Ascribe Him StrengthI. The Unspoken Promise.
First thoughts are too faint to recall
But the certainty was there
All strength, warmth and gentle nuzzling
Upheld in arms which will not fail me

Trips to the 5 & 10
Walking across those creaky wood floors
For a trinket
Then afternoons spent in the park
On a blanket in the grass

So bright was the sun against those dark green trees
Like the grin beneath the shades you wore

II. The Accidental Exposure.
Some moments are caught in glass
After the implosion
We stare at the cracks in wonder...

The man spoke death and perversity
His words ran like bile into a open sewer
All the while promising innocence

Behold The DawnCalling forth the dawn
A vast angelic host stands
Like a mighty wave cresting
Their voices rise as one song
Before the Lord of Hosts

Violet rays stream from the throne
In a royal hue
Now comes the red
A deeper crimson than the blood rose
Blue floods past the seraphim
In the heights of the North
As they eternally chant "Holy, Holy, Holy
Is the Lord God Almighty."

Seamlessly the colors knit
Across a canvas not made by man
Flowing across the heavens
Heralding hope, newness of life and joy

The Moon bids adieu as she withdraws
From her rounds
Starfields burning fiercely
Our champions of the night
Bow before the Sun
As he assu
Petit Four in BlueStars shone brightly across the night sky
There was a stillness though
As if the very Heavens honored her presence...

It was that Time
She knew it all too well
Before it happened...

When the dawn came
The sunshine searched in vain
But she could not be found

All that remained
Were those special
Memories of you

This style is the featured form for December 9th of the DFC Challenge. Here is a description of the form:

    The Sedoka is a Japanese form. It centres around the
    idea of Questions and Answers. The syllabic count is
    that of haiku (5,7,5) and there are 6 lines, 3 in each
    stanza. The content can be of any theme but one
    must question or mention something in the first, and
    then either contradict or answer in the second. It's all
    about leaving you guessing and making people think.

Wow. I agree with your assessment that this is the best. I'm impressed! Really impressed!

Interestingly, I have heard that, even though it is a vacuum, there is a constant noise in space. And it has characteristics similar to music. I can't remember where I read that, it was one of the many obscure articles which my dad showed when I was little, but remembering it adds another dimension to your poem.
