Ghosts in overcoats,
Wander past this coffee shop.
Hear the mournful notes,
Of souls on the chopping block.
Wander past this coffee shop,
Like scarves of rain,
Smelling of an early Spring,
Dusty light and ancient pain.

Tears in a lush garden;
No one can forget,
Winter holds no pardon.
Of souls on the chopping block,
These ghosts pallbearing,
Forgotten dreams of man,
With grief and caring.

This poem was written for the 2013 December Form Challenge, hosted by

If you start with a line of 6 syllables then your scheme will be: 6,5,6,5; 5,6,5,6; 6,5,6,5; 5,6,5,6. If you start with 5 syllables, your scheme will be: 5,6,5,6; 6,5,6,5; 5,6,5,6; 6,5,6,5.
The refrain and rhyme structure is as follows:
